The SEAI heat pump grant process, step by step
Follow the steps in this order. Skipping ahead, especially buying before approval, can cost you the grant.
1. Check you are eligible
Your home must have been built and occupied before 2021 and have an MPRN (the 11-digit number on your electricity meter). Owner-occupiers and landlords can apply.
Tip: have your Eircode and MPRN ready.
2. Hire an SEAI-registered contractor
Your installer must be SEAI-registered for you to get the grant. Use our finder to locate a registered Daikin installer near you.
3. Test your home's heat loss
The Heat Loss Indicator (HLI) measures how much heat your home loses, in W/(K.m²). If your home was built before 2007, you need a Technical Assessment, unless you already have a valid BER with an Advisory Report showing an HLI of 2.3 or lower. A €200 grant is available towards the assessment if you also apply for the heat pump grant. For homes built from 2007, the assessment is not mandatory.
Tip: if your HLI is too high, ask what insulation upgrades would bring it down.
4. Calculate your grant bundle
Add up the parts you qualify for: the heat pump unit grant (up to €10,500), central heating upgrades (up to €2,000) and the €2,000 boiler scrappage grant if you are replacing an oil or gas boiler, an electric storage or solid fuel system, or have no central heating.
5. Choose your Daikin heat pump
Your installer helps you pick the system that suits your heating and hot water needs. The Daikin Altherma 4 H is a strong fit for retrofitting an existing home.
6. Apply and wait for approval
Apply to SEAI before any work starts. Do not buy materials or begin installation until you have a formal grant offer. Accept your offer within 30 days, or you will need to reapply.
Tip: keep a copy of your grant offer letter.
7. Installation and post-work BER
Once your heat pump is installed, you need a post-work BER (Building Energy Rating) assessment. A €50 grant is available towards it. An SEAI-registered BER assessor must complete it before you claim your payment.
Tip: ask your installer to book the BER as soon as work finishes.
8. Submit for grant payment
Send your completed Declaration of Works and invoices to SEAI. Allow 4 to 6 weeks for payment after SEAI receives your forms. Inspections that find reworks can add delay.
Tip: finish the works, BER and paperwork within 8 months of your grant offer date.

Frequently Asked Questions
This guide is general information only. Grant amounts, eligibility and terms are set by SEAI and can change. Daikin Ireland is not affiliated with SEAI. Check SEAI.ie before you apply.
Owners of the property can apply. That includes owner-occupiers, private and commercial landlords of tenanted homes, companies, registered charities, Approved Housing Bodies and owners of holiday homes. The home must have been built and occupied before 2021, and you need its 11-digit MPRN, which is on your electricity bill. Check the latest criteria on SEAI.ie.
No. You must have grant approval before you start work. You lose eligibility if you have already bought materials or started the grant-aided works. Once you receive your offer, you have 30 days to accept it or you must reapply.
The HLI measures how much heat your home loses, in W/(K.m²).
The grant is a bundle of up to three parts. For a house with an air to water heat pump, that is up to €10,500 for the heat pump unit, up to €2,000 for central heating upgrades such as radiators or underfloor heating, and a €2,000 boiler scrappage grant where it applies. That is up to €14,500 in total. For apartments, the maximum is €11,500. Central heating and scrappage amounts depend on your installer’s design. If your actual cost is lower than the grant value, only the lower amount is paid.
It is a €2,000 grant where a heat pump replaces an oil or gas boiler, an electric storage system or a solid fuel system. It also applies if your home has no central heating. It is now part of the heat pump grant. If you already have an open application, SEAI says it applies the extra €2,000 automatically where you are eligible.
Allow 4 to 6 weeks for SEAI to process payment after it receives your completed forms. Your grant offer is valid for 8 months from the date it is issued, so your works, post-work BER and paperwork should be finished in that time. If works run late, you can still submit with a cover letter explaining the delay.
Your installer will confirm which Daikin model suits your home and meets SEAI’s technical requirements. They will also supply the paperwork SEAI needs, including the Ecodesign datasheet. Your installer must be SEAI-registered.
Not always. Homes built before 2007 need a Technical Assessment unless a valid BER with an Advisory Report shows an HLI of 2.3 or lower. Homes built from 2007 do not. Every home needs a post-work BER by an SEAI-registered BER assessor before the grant is paid. A €50 BER grant is available towards it, on your first grant application.
Your installer designs and fits the system, completes and signs the Declaration of Works, and provides technical forms such as the Ecodesign datasheet. You can apply online, by post or through a One Stop Shop. You and your BER assessor also sign the Declaration of Works, and you submit it with your payment request, or your One Stop Shop does it for you. Keep your invoices and grant offer letter.
