Autumn Aftercare: How to Maintain Your Daikin Heat Pump for Maximum Performance

Heat pumps are low-maintenance systems that require very little homeowner intervention – understanding the three pillars of aftercare will keep your system operating efficiently

The return of kids to school signals the start of heating season around Ireland. Soon enough, the clocks will go back and winter will be well and truly on the way.

For the 100,000 or so Irish homeowners who have invested in a heat pump, this is no cause for concern. Installing a heat pump – whether it’s in a new build home or as a replacement for a traditional oil or gas boiler – not only gives you one of the most environmentally friendly heating systems available, but also results in a cosier, more comfortable home all year round.

Another advantage of heat pumps is that they are extremely low maintenance heating systems. Once up and running, they work away to maintain a steady, reliable level of comfort without the need for the homeowner to step in – no turning the heat on and off; no need to chase that ‘perfect’ temperature.

Although very little intervention is required, it’s important to keep an eye on your indoor and outdoor units and to understand the three ‘pillars’ of aftercare that will keep your heat pump ticking along safely and efficiently. Here’s what you need to know:

Annual servicing – getting your installer involved

As with most traditional oil or gas boilers, your warranty will state that you are required to get your heat pump serviced at least once a year by a registered technician. This is a vital annual step and a requirement of the Daikin warranty conditions.

Your Daikin installer will send you an annual service reminder but ultimately it is your responsibility to make sure it gets done. Contact a Daikin Service Agent from our website and make an appointment to have the heat pump serviced; remember to keep a record of the service and any maintenance work carried out.

By staying on top of your annual servicing and keeping a record of your maintenance history, your warranty will roll on seamlessly from one year to the next.

‘Stand By Me’ – peace of mind guaranteed

‘Stand By Me’ is the section of the Daikin website (www.daikin.ie) that gives you an overview of your heat pump system. Once your heat pump has been registered on Stand By Me, you can keep a record of your warranty, locate your nearest service partner/installer, and have the reassurance of knowing that you’re on top of your system.

As part of the installation process, your Daikin installer will show you how to register your heat pump on Stand By Me. (Typically, they will also help you to download the Onecta app so you can operate the heat pump via phone or tablet – change the thermostat, set temperature schedule, monitor energy consumption etc.)

As with the annual service, however, it’s up to you to make sure your system is registered on Stand By Me, so if you haven’t already done this, get on it straight away! While you’re on the Daikin website, you’ll also find our list of FAQs and lots of other useful information about maintaining a Daikin heat pump.
