New heat pump grants in Ireland – what does the Government announcement mean for you?

Great news for the thousands of Irish people planning to retrofit a heat pump in their homes this year – as part of the National Residential Retrofit Plan 2026, the Government has announced a significant increase in the level of grant available for a heat pump system.

From 3 February 2026, the grant available is increasing from the current maximum of €6,500 up to a maximum of €12,500 for a heat pump system. This bundle includes:

• Up to €6,500 for air-to-water heat pump installation (*€3,500 for an air-to-air heat pump)
• Up to €2,000 for central heating upgrades (e.g. new radiators, underfloor heating)
• Up to €4,000 renewable heat bonus for upgrading to a heat pump

With up to €12,500 in funding now available for the installation of an air-to-water heat pump (up to €7,500 for an air-to-air system), it is more affordable than ever for Irish homeowners to switch to renewable energy.
