Say Hello to Hydrosplit – Maximum Heat Pump Efficiency for Your New Build or Retrofit

Ireland is cutting the cord with fossil fuels in every walk of life, including the way we heat our homes. Switching from traditional heating such as an oil or gas boiler to a renewable system like a heat pump not only reduces carbon emissions, but also creates a healthier home – all while reducing your annual energy bill.

Turbocharging our sustainability journey is a generous range of SEAI grants and funding to help Irish homeowners invest in the energy efficiency of their properties – primarily heat pumps but also attic and wall insulation, solar PV and other measures. All of which means there’s a 95% chance your next heating system will be a heat pump.

What type of heat pump?

Here at Daikin, our most popular model of heat pump – by some distance – is the Altherma air-to-water range, which uses a sustainable and renewable energy source, i.e. outside air. This unit extracts (free) heat from the outside air and transfers this inside the home to provide heating and hot water.

Air-to-water heat pumps work extremely well with radiators, which makes them ideal for both new builds and also retrofit projects, for example in a boiler replacement scenario. They are also compatible with underfloor heating, delivering a consistent level of comfort all year round – even on the coldest winter days.

Whether you are building a new home or undertaking a home energy upgrade on an existing property, your first port of call in choosing a heat pump is your local installer or contractor. Here, an option that is well worth discussing is the acclaimed Daikin Altherma EPGA-D Hydrosplit system.

Heat Pump

Hydrosplit system ideal for larger houses

The Hydrosplit system – so called because it features a water connection between the outdoor and indoor units – is a true powerhouse. Ideally suited to both new builds and retrofit projects, its 11/14/16kw outdoor unit delivers heating and hot water to homes up to 400m2, which makes it perfect for a range of properties including large, one-off houses.

Like all Daikin heat pumps, the high-performance Hydrosplit model is designed here in Europe, for European homes, so it can handle anything the Irish weather throws at it. The outdoor unit continues to operate normally in temperatures as low as -28°C, with a water heating production of 60°C even in sub-zero temperatures.

A heat pump’s unrivalled ability to maintain a consistent level of comfort is second only to the efficiency with which it does so. Because the system uses 75% renewable energy (air) and only 25% electricity, it can satisfy a household’s heating and hot water needs using a fraction of the energy required by traditional heating systems.

This level of efficiency means lower running costs and a reduced annual energy bill, not to mention vastly reduced carbon emissions and better air quality in the home for your family. The Hydrosplit system also has the option of setting up in low sound mode, e.g. in the case of a sensitive urban location.

From the installer’s perspective, meanwhile, the system’s pipework is water-based which means there is no F-Gas connection required. Everything is pre-plumbed for easy installation, with a magnetic filter pre-installed to separate dirt in the system – another plus in terms of installation and maintenance.

Once the Hydrosplit has been installed, the system can be easily controlled from anywhere via an app on your smartphone or tablet. Your installer will explain how to ensure your new heat pump is always running at 100% efficiency, with our Stand By Me customer portal on hand for technical queries and more.

To ensure your new build or retrofit home is future-proofed for heating and hot water, ask your local heat pump installer about the Daikin Altherma EPGA-D Hydrosplit system.
